How to properly plant weed seeds after germination?

Growing

Whether you have chosen autoflowering weed seeds, female or regular seeds, after germination you should plant the weed seeds immediately with which you start the growth process. For this the root from the seed must be at least 0.5 to 1.5 cm long. If you do not plant the seed immediately after germination, the cannabis seed will probably die. It is therefore important to take immediate action.
Are you a beginner and you wonder how to properly plant weed seeds after germination (indoors or outdoors) and what you should take into account? Read the four steps below and grow your own beautiful cannabis plant at home:

What do you need to plant germinated weed seeds in soil?

To plant the germinated weed seeds in soil you need the following attributes:

  • Lightproof pots with drainage
  • Moist airy potting soil
  • Pen
  • Tweezers
  • Germinated weed seeds

Step 1 – choose the right pot and fill it with potting soil

To choose the most suitable pot you have to ask yourself how big you want the plant to grow. A large plant will not grow optimal in a small pot. As a rule of thumb, every 5 liters is about 20 cm of plant. Although this rule doesn’t apply to all species, it’s a very useful indication for the average height. Are you in doubt? Then choose a larger pot size. Use the table below to choose your pot size.

What size pot for my weed plant?

Pot in liters Plant height
5 10 – 20
10 20 – 40
15 40 – 60
20 60 – 80
25 80 – 100
40 100 – 120
Choose a light-proof pot with drainage

Roots should not be too wet. It’s therefore important to choose a pot with drainage. With drainage the excess water can easily drain through the drainage holes on the underside of the pot. In addition, the pot must be light-proof so the roots do not come into contact with light.

Tip: choose air pots or smart pots. These pots provide roots with extra oxygen with which faster growth is stimulated.

Fill the pots with moist potting soil

Have you chosen the desired pot? Then fill the pot ¾ with moist, loose and airy potting soil.

Step 2 – make a small dimple

Make a dimple in the potting soil. You do this simply by putting a pencil in the ground.

Step 3 – place the cannabis seed in the dimple

Use a tweezers to put the pot seed in the dimple. The root sting (germinated root from the seed) should point downwards. Is the weed seed stuck to the moist paper towel? Don’t pull the seed but spray the seed with water again. You will see that the marijuana seed is now easily released.

The dimple most be 0.5 to 0.6 cm deep. Make sure the dimple does not get deeper than 0.6 cm and not shallower than 0.5 cm.

Step 4 – cover the ground

Once the weed seed is in place, gently cover it with soil. Enough to block the light, but not too much. Do not press the ground but cover the seed gently. The seedlings are ready to grow.

How long doe weed seeds take to grow?

Seedlings normally emerge 24 to 72 hours after the germinated seeds where planted.
