What Are Outdoor Strains?

Outdoor strains are cannabis varieties that thrive under the open sky. These are the genetics built to handle the real world, with wind, rain, bugs, and all the unpredictability that comes with growing outside. They’re usually tougher, bigger, and more forgiving than your average indoor strain.

What sets outdoor strains apart is their resilience. These plants are bred to stretch out, root deep, and push through swings in temperature and humidity. Many of them have strong mould resistance, natural pest tolerance, and a structure that helps them breathe better in dense canopies or humid climates.

They also tend to grow large. Like tree-sized large if you let them. That makes them perfect for growers with space to spare, whether it's a backyard, a field, or a sunny hillside. If you’ve got good soil, a decent season, and a spot that gets plenty of light, outdoor strains will reward you with massive yields and strong, sun-grown flavour.

At WeedSeedsExpress, our outdoor lineup is full of robust, proven genetics. Whether you're growing off-grid or in your own backyard, these are the strains made to survive and thrive in the great outdoors.

Growing Tips for Outdoor Strains

Outdoor strains are built to handle more, but a smart setup still makes a huge difference. If you want fat, healthy plants and a harvest that makes it to the jar clean and mould-free, here’s what to keep in mind:

1. Pick the right spot. Your location matters. Go for a sunny, open space with at least 6 hours of direct light per day. Good airflow is key, and raised beds or well-draining soil make life easier from the start.
2. Start strong indoors. Give your seeds a head start under lights before you move them outside. A few weeks of indoor veg lets you avoid cold nights, spring storms, and hungry bugs while your plants build some muscle.
3. Watch the weather. High winds, cold nights, or constant rain can stress your plants fast. Use plant cages, stakes, or a simple hoop house to protect your grow if you’re in a rougher region.
4. Feed for the long haul. Outdoor plants usually get bigger and hungrier than indoor ones. Use rich organic soil, add compost, and don’t be afraid to top-dress or feed through flower. They’ll pay you back in weight.
5. Stay ahead of pests and mould. Check your plants often. Look under leaves, watch for webbing, and give them room to breathe. A little prevention goes a long way. And when harvest nears, shake off morning dew and keep them dry if the weather turns.
