Asnoriu took a run with Sleepy Joe OG feminized seeds from WeedSeedsExpress to see how far this high-THC indica-dominant powerhouse could go in a controlled indoor setting. The grow lasted 15 weeks, from seedling to harvest, and was a perfect example of how to get the most out of a strain. It had a precise feeding schedule, high-quality lighting, and a variety of training methods.

Grow Diary

Weeks 1–2 (Vegetative Stage)

Sleepy Joe OG got off to a great start in the Biobizz All Mix and Worm Humus blend, with fast early root growth and strong, wide indica leaves. The Mars Hydro TSL2000 was set up to give the best PPFD without making the plants stretch, which kept the internodes close together. It was good for early growth because the average daytime temperature was 75.2 °F and the average nighttime temperature was 69.8 °F, with 55% humidity.

Weeks 3–5 (Vegetative Stage with Early Training)

Defoliation started in week 3 to get rid of lower growth and let more air flow through. Then, low-stress training started in week 3 and went on until week 7 to help shape the canopy. Using BioBizz Grow and Ecothrive supplements to feed nutrients made the plants stronger. By the fifth week, the plant had grown to fill the tent horizontally, making a flat canopy with lots of places for buds to grow in the future.

Weeks 6–8 (Transition and Heavy Training)

The ScrOG net went up in week 6, holding branches in place so they could get the most light. Between weeks 6 and 8, high-stress training was used at key times to keep vertical growth in check and encourage lateral growth. Defoliation kept the air and light flowing through the trees. The stretch was moderate, and the strong stems held up the tops as they grew.

Weeks 9–10 (Early Flower)

With the Mars Hydro TSL2000 providing full-spectrum flowering light, buds started to stack up on the even canopy. Plant Success mycorrhizae helped keep the roots healthy while Bloom nutrients were used for feeding. The ScrOG net was completely full, and all of the bud sites were at the same height for even ripening.

Weeks 11–13 (Mid Flower)

Buds started to grow quickly, and trichomes started to grow quickly as well. In week 11, defoliation got rid of the last big fan leaves, which helped the flowers grow.  The smell got stronger—a strong mix of sweet citrus and fuel. The humidity was lowered to about 45% to reduce the risk of mold, and the temperature was kept steady to help the resin grow.

Weeks 14–15 (Late Flower & Harvest)

By week 14, the pistils were getting darker, and the trichomes were mostly cloudy with a few amber heads. This meant that the plants were ready to be picked. A last rinse with water that was balanced for pH made sure the smoke was clean.  The ScrOG net had done its job by keeping heavy, sticky colas in place. At the end of week 15, Sleepy Joe OG was ready to be picked. The buds were thick, sticky, and smelled strong.

Detailed Observations & Reflections

Using ScrOG, LST, and HST together made the Sleepy Joe OG's indoor potential the best it could be. Even the height of the canopy, the way light got through, and the timing of defoliation all helped make buds that were all the same and of the best quality. The custom soil mix with worm humus and the addition of mycorrhizae made a strong root base that helped the plants take in nutrients quickly throughout the grow.

Challenges & Solutions

To keep the canopy perfectly flat during the transition, the plant's natural stretch had to be managed with a mix of high-stress training and ScrOG weaving. During the dense mid-to-late flower phase, it was very important to keep the humidity level stable. A small dehumidifier kept the RH level at 45%, which kept botrytis from happening. By timing the switch from Grow to Bloom nutrients, the plant got what it needed without getting too much food, which led to clean, resin-heavy flowers.
