MAC 1 - Week By Week Grow Diary & Strain Review

This MAC 1 run was never going to be a perfectly controlled indoor grow.

AsNoriu kicked things off with some older promo seeds, mixed up his own soil, and then spent the next few months dealing with pretty much every annoying grow-room curveball you can think of.

Missed watering. Power cuts. Nutrient burn. Gnats. Cold spells. And later on, humidity levels that were frankly ridiculous.

MAC 1 also started life as the smallest plant in the tent, so expectations were not exactly sky-high early on.

Then flower hit. That is when things got interesting.

Weeks 0–1 - Germination & Early Growth

AsNoriu started MAC 1 directly in the substrate using some older promotional seeds. He was also testing out a homemade soil mix for this run.

That experiment did not exactly win him over. He later said he would probably go back to using branded soil and simply tweak it himself next time.

By day 14, MAC 1 was sitting at 5 inch under an 18/6 light schedule. Temps were around 21 °C during the day, 17 °C at night, with humidity at 60%.

The early growth caught AsNoriu’s attention. She was moving faster than expected.

He also had the 40-litre fabric pot sitting on a trolley, which sounds like a small detail, but anyone who has tried moving a full fabric pot around a tent will know exactly why that helps.

Weeks 3–4 - Recovery, ScrOG & Pre-Flower

There was no Week 2 update.

By day 22, things had already gone slightly sideways.

AsNoriu had been stuck away from the grow for seven days, even though he would normally water every four to five. MAC 1 was not thrilled about it, obviously, but she got through it.

At that point she was around 8 inch tall and still the smallest plant in the tent. By day 29, she had reached 14 inch and gone under a homemade cotton-line ScrOG.

Some plants were also showing what looked like magnesium issues, so AsNoriu started adding around 50 ppm of Epsom salt once a week, along with mycorrhizae and phosphorus.

MAC 1 was still taking up the least amount of space under the screen.

A few days later, the plants were settled in and the switch to 12/12 was ready to happen.

Then the diary jumps. There are no Week 5 or Week 6 entries.

Weeks 7–8 - Flowering Returns & Rapid Stretch

The next update lands on day 53, with MAC 1 now around 60 cm tall.

By this point she was properly into flower, had been lollipopped and defoliated, and was clearly starting to put some work in.

Plagron Green Sensation had also been added to the feed. Even at roughly one-third strength, MAC 1 showed some nutrient burn.

AsNoriu did some digging, heard enough good things from other growers, and decided to keep using it rather than binning it straight away.

By day 57, MAC 1 was around 28 inch tall and had gone from the smallest plant in the tent to the tallest.

The buds were already starting to look chunky too, with AsNoriu saying they had the potential to turn into a few proper little “grenades.” 

Humidity was also climbing, so the fans were pushed harder and extraction was increased.

Weeks 9–10 - Bud Development

Once MAC 1 hit around 28 inch, the vertical stretch was basically done. Now it was all about filling out.

By day 63, AsNoriu was happy with the colour and general health of the plant.

He had expected the colas to be a bit longer, but MAC 1 had been late to get moving compared with the rest of the tent. At that stage, he said he would have been happy with around 2.5 oz.

A few days later, the smell was getting stronger and the buds were still packing on weight.

Nothing dramatic happened through week 10, which after the earlier chaos was probably a welcome change. 

The final mycorrhizae and magnesium supplements went in on day 76, with the feeding program simplified from there.

Weeks 11–12 - Power Cuts, Humidity & Final Stretch

And then the grow room decided to misbehave again. Another power cut shifted the light schedule by around eight hours.

The humidity was the bigger problem. At ground level, RH reached 99%.

Around the canopy it was roughly 85%, and even higher in the tent it was still sitting around 80%.

Those are not numbers you want to see with dense buds late in flower.

AsNoriu resisted the urge to start hacking leaves off the plant because he did not want to create fresh wounds in those conditions.

Water uptake had slowed too, and he suspected MAC 1 may have been staying wetter than he realised because the pot was difficult to reach.

So he backed off the watering, let the medium dry down properly, and brought in a dehumidifier.

There were also fungus gnats hanging around. Sticky traps caught roughly 50 insects, mostly gnats, and seemed to keep the problem under control.

By day 90, things were looking much better. MAC 1 was close to the finish and had become the most mature plant in the room, despite starting out as the smallest.

Week 13 - Harvest

MAC 1 came down on day 98. By that point, the plant had been through a fair bit.

Temperatures had dropped to around 5 °C during veg after electricity issues.

There had been multiple power cuts, missed watering, nutrient burn, fungus gnats, sketchy humidity, and a soil mix that AsNoriu was not exactly rushing to use again.

MAC 1 also threw some hermaphroditic growth during the final week.

Given the amount of stress she had been under, AsNoriu seemed more surprised that it had not happened earlier.

What really stood out at harvest was the bud structure. He called MAC 1 the most “nuggy” strain he had grown.

The flowers were tightly packed, and even lower buds that had not received much direct light filled out better than expected.

Trimming was easy too, thanks to the way the flower had formed.

Detailed Observations & Grower’s Reflections

The biggest thing with this MAC 1 grow was how quickly she changed once flower started. Early on, she was the runt of the room.

By week 8, she was the tallest plant in the tent.

The flowers did not form into huge stretched-out spears. They stayed more compact and chunky, which ended up working nicely.

AsNoriu was especially impressed with the lower buds. Normally, the shaded stuff is where you expect the fluff.

MAC 1 did a much better job than expected down there.

Challenges & Solutions

There was no shortage of problems.

The missed watering early on was the first proper setback, but MAC 1 recovered.

Possible magnesium issues were handled with Epsom salt, while nutrient burn showed up after Green Sensation was introduced.

Late flower was where things got properly awkward. Humidity shot as high as 99%, water uptake slowed, and fungus gnats were hanging around the tent.

AsNoriu responded by increasing airflow, reducing watering, letting the pots dry down more thoroughly, using sticky traps, and bringing in a dehumidifier.

The plant still showed hermaphroditic growth in the final week, but by then she had already dealt with a long list of environmental stress.

Final Result and Strain Review

MAC 1 was harvested on day 98.

The final dry weight was recorded on day 107 at 4 oz from the plant.

That is quite a bit more than the 2.5 oz AsNoriu said he would have been happy with earlier in flower.

The flowers were dense, tightly stacked, and surprisingly solid even lower down the plant.

AsNoriu gave MAC 1 a 10/10 rating and listed the grow difficulty as easy. That “easy” rating is interesting considering everything that happened during the run.

But that probably says more about the plant than the grow. She took a lot of abuse, kept moving, and still finished with a respectable amount of compact flower.

MAC 1 proved to be a pretty resilient plant with dense bud structure and much better late-run performance than her early growth suggested.
