germination

SmokyPinball started the germination process using a simple but effective method. First, the Blackberry Moonrocks Feminized seeds soaked in a glass of water. After a short soak, they were transferred to a damp paper towel, which was covered with a bowl to maintain humidity.

By the morning of day three, both seeds had cracked open, showing healthy signs of life. At this point, SmokyPinball placed them into solo cups filled with FoxFarm Happy Frog (FFHF) soil. This ensured the seedlings had a soft, nutrient-rich environment for their first stages of growth. Germination success stood at 100% with both seeds.

Week 1 and 2

In the first two weeks, SmokyPinball's Blackberry Moonrocks feminized plants showed steady progress under an 18-hour light schedule, with temperatures around 26°C during the day and 21°C at night. Week 1 saw both seedlings thriving in FoxFarm Happy Frog soil with added perlite, though SmokyPinball noted differences in their appearance despite identical conditions. LST began early to promote even growth.

In week 2, topping and the first nutrient feeding (ILGM Growtime at half strength) were introduced on September 15. One plant responded well, but the second showed nitrogen toxicity, with clawing on the upper leaves. After two flushes, it recovered. By the end of week 2, SmokyPinball decided to reduce nutrient strength further, continuing LST and preparing for flowering. Despite the plants' differing growth, both remained strong.

Week 3 and 4

SmokyPinball continued LST and topping in week 3, noting the plants were doing well and identifying the first female preflower. The main concern was whether removing large fan leaves or lower branches was the best move for light penetration. Final defoliation was done after minor LST adjustments, and feeding was increased to 3.3 ml/gal of ILGM Growtime nutrients. Both plants reached about 20.32 cm in height, with stable temperatures and humidity.

In week 4 he added a custom SCRoG setup using wooden dowels and garden wire to level the canopy. The lights were gradually increased to 100%, but some leaves showed signs of light burn, prompting a reduction back to 80%. Another topping was performed on one branch as an experiment. Both plants continued to respond well to the training techniques, and the grow setup was adjusted to maximize even growth across the canopy.

Week 5 and 6

In week 5, SmokyPinball maintained consistent grow conditions for the Blackberry Moonrocks plants, keeping them at 20.32 cm in height under an 18-hour light schedule. Temperatures stayed at 26°C during the day, and pH was managed at 6.3. Training continued with the SCRoG technique, ensuring the canopy remained even and well-spaced for light distribution.

By week 6, the plants had grown to 22.86 cm and showed good progress. Conditions remained stable with the same light schedule, temperatures, and humidity. Nutrient feeding continued at 3.3 ml/gal of ILGM Growtime. The SCRoG technique was in full use, ensuring an optimal canopy shape as the plants prepared for the transition to flowering.

Week 7 and 8

In week 7, SmokyPinball continued to use the custom SCRoG setup, which proved effective with easily adjustable wires. Humidity was boosted by 8-10% using a water wick, helping balance the climate. Despite these improvements, the plants showed mild signs of nutrient burn from the ILGM Growtime nutrients, a recurring issue that SmokyPinball wasn’t happy with and planned to avoid in future grows. LST, SCRoG, and defoliation were ongoing to keep the canopy even and prevent overcrowding.

The plants transitioned into the flowering stage in week 8, growing to 25.4 cm. The light schedule was switched to 12/12 over three days, with noticeable stretching as flowering began. SmokyPinball increased nutrient strength with ILGM Flowertime at 4.93 ml/gal and alternated between plain RO water and nutrient water every other day. The daily SCRoG adjustments continued, and trimming was planned to manage the rapid new growth. The grow was progressing well as the plants settled into flowering.

Week 9 and 10

In week 9, SmokyPinball observed rapid vertical growth as the Blackberry Moonrocks plants stretched during early flowering, reaching 30.48 cm in height. ILGM Flowertime nutrients were used at half strength, supplemented with CaliMagic to prevent calcium and magnesium deficiencies. By mid-week, calyxes were forming, marking the beginning of bud development. The grow conditions remained steady with a 12-hour light schedule and stable temperatures.

By week 10, the plants had grown to 38.1 cm, and bud sites were developing well despite a brief drought, from which the plants recovered. SmokyPinball adjusted the SF2000 light to 90% power, keeping it 15 inches above the canopy to avoid light burn. The ScrOG setup continued to manage the canopy, while nutrients were dialed in at 7.57 ml/gal, including CaliMagic. The grow was on track, with airflow managed by a 190 CFM vent running continuously, and the oscillating fan on a timer

Week 11 and 12

In week 11, SmokyPinball focused on defoliation, removing excess leaves on Flowering Day 21 to improve light penetration. Nutrients were now at full strength, with ILGM Flowertime at 7.57 ml/gal and CaliMagic at 4.93 ml/gal, given every other watering. The plants, now 35.56 cm tall, were showing significant trichome production, and flowers were developing well. The day temperature dropped slightly to 24°C, and humidity was kept steady at 55%.

By week 12, the plants reached 45.72 cm. The smell of the flowers became more noticeable, although it was still mild in the grow room thanks to the carbon filter. Nutrient feeding and environmental conditions remained consistent, allowing the plants to focus on trichome and bud production. SmokyPinball noted that the aroma inside the tent had become much stronger, signaling healthy flower development as the plants moved deeper into the flowering stage.

Week 13 and 14

In week 13, the Blackberry Moonrocks plants reached 48.26 cm and were steadily fattening their buds. SmokyPinball maintained a 12-hour light schedule, with nutrient feedings at full strength, including ILGM Flowertime, CaliMagic, and the introduction of ILGM Bloom Booster at 0.98 ml/gal. The buds developed a fruity smell, and the plants appeared healthy as they moved closer to harvest, with about three weeks remaining.

By week 14, nutrient adjustments were made, lowering Bloom Booster and CaliMagic dosages to 0.25 ml/gal and 1.23 ml/gal respectively. SmokyPinball noticed some leaf edge burn on the older leaves, likely caused by heat and light stress. The situation was closely monitored to prevent further damage as the plants neared the final stretch of flowering. Buds continued to fill out nicely, and the overall grow remained on track for a successful harvest.

Week 15

In week 15, SmokyPinball began the final flush of the Blackberry Moonrocks plants, using reverse osmosis (RO) water with a pH of 7.0. The plants remained at 48.26 cm in height under a 12-hour light schedule, and airflow and humidity were maintained around 50%. About 10% of the trichomes had turned amber, signaling that harvest time was near. SmokyPinball noted the phenotypic differences between the two plants but confirmed both came from the same seed pack from WeedSeedsExpress.

Harvest and Yield

SmokyPinball harvested two Blackberry Moonrocks plants, with a total wet weight of 822.14 grams. After drying, the final bud weight came in at 127.57 grams. With a grow room size of 0.7432 m², the yield per square meter was 171.65 grams, and each plant produced an average of 63.79 grams. The grow used 269.11 watts per square meter, yielding 0.64 grams per watt.

The buds had a flowery, fruity, and pine-like taste, with a balanced 55% sativa and 45% indica effect. SmokyPinball noted the euphoric, relaxed, and uplifted feeling from the strain, though with the typical side effect of dry mouth. Medicinally, it helped with depression and stress. Overall, the first-time grow was a success, and SmokyPinball looked forward to sharing the final product.
