This classic strain originates in the volcanic soil of the Hawaiian island of Maui. First appearing in the 1960s, Maui Waui quickly gained a massive fan base due to its strong sativa euphoric effects. Allegedly, in the 1960s, some hippies were celebrating the summer solstice in Lower Nāhiku on the Island of Maui.

It was no secret that the locals weren’t too pleased by this invasion of their once peaceful island. But when the locals noticed the thick clouds rising from the festivities site, they decided to join and bring their island-grown weed to the party.

While the hippies were used to some great stuff and had some pretty sweet marijuana strains of their own, they were blown away by this true Hawaiian "Pakalōlō" called Nāhiku Maui.

Rumor has it that anyone who tried it couldn’t utter anything other than “wowie.” By the end of a highly successful party, the Hawaiians and the hippies finally found some common ground.

They continued to share the beautiful tropical island while enjoying one of the island’s main attractions, which from thereon was known as the Maui Wowie marijuana strain or, as we call it, Maui Waui.

Made from true old-school marijuana seed genetics, Maui Waui weed is perhaps one of the most enticing temptations of the eponymous islands. Extensively praised in the Kid Cudi song, this lanky tropical Cannabis Sativa has an utterly tempting tropical odor and taste.

Maui Waui feminized seeds (also called Maui Wowie by some) are bred from a famous Hawaiian Sativa IBL marijuana strain. IBL stands for “inbred line, " resulting from persistent, careful inbreeding.

The IBL strain has been back-crossed so often that it now only contains a single dominant phenotype with all the desirable characteristics. This means that when you grow Maui Waui marijuana seeds, each seed produces an identical plant with stable and consistent genetics.

Growing Information

Maui Waui seeds are suitable for indoor and outdoor growing and are fairly easy to grow for experienced growers and those taking their first steps into cannabis cultivation.

With the Hawaiian Islands as her native land, she prefers a warm climate between 23 and 29 °C, with fairly high humidity of 60 to 66% to thrive. Indoor growers are advised to replicate the native Hawaiian climate as closely as possible so that Maui Waui can fully develop and flower successfully.

Provide these feminized seeds with ideal conditions, and she will reward you by producing luscious moss green buds with deep red-orange pistils and generous frosty trichomes.

Because her dense buds may require extra support by the end of the flowering phase, it is recommended to utilize a SOG or ScrOG setup to encourage horizontal canopy growth and allow the secondary budding sites to fully develop.

Like most modern indoor cannabis strains, she will bestow upon you some shiny frosty buds. Unlike most Sativa-dominant strains, Maui Waui has a relatively brief flowering period of only 63 to 77 days when grown indoors.

Outdoors, this means that your Maui Waui will be ready for harvest by October in the Northern Hemisphere and in April in the Southern Hemisphere.

Characteristics

The Maui Waui cannabis strain grows quite tall, and indoor heights of 130 to 150 cm can easily be realized, so applying SOG or ScrOG is no frivolous luxury. Outdoors, these high-quality seeds grow into even taller plants at 155 to 175 cm. 

Indoors, the fully grown, guaranteed female plants produce an impressive yield of up to 450 grams per m². In an outdoor setting, under optimal circumstances, this Hawaiian Island descendant can put an impressive weight on the scale of no less than 800 to 900 grams per plant!
